Art Installation – Entomophonia

Entomophonia
(vibro-tactile installation edition)
9:20 PM Introduction by Leon Louder, Artist
Commissioned by the Montreal Insectarium for the 2023 MUTEK festival, Entomophonia is an 11-track work composed entirely from insect song, transforming the sounds of more than fifty species into expansive electronic compositions. Developed in partnership with VibraFusionLab, this vibro-tactile edition reimagines the project as a multi-channel installation, translating pulses, chirps, and buzzes into physical vibration across four speakers and haptic transducers.
Artist Bio

Leon Louder is a Montreal-based Canadian composer and experimental musician whose practice spans experimental electronic and electroacoustic music. His work engages unorthodox sound sources, including homebuilt instruments and field recordings, which he transforms through advanced sampling and real-time manipulation to create hyper-detailed, immersive sound environments. Often shaped by serendipity, dream-like juxtapositions, and an ongoing exploration of the psychological dimensions of technology, his compositions foreground texture, rhythm, and physical sensation as much as pitch or harmony.
Recent projects include a 2023 commission for the Montreal Insectarium in collaboration with MUTEK, as well as ongoing audiovisual, tactile, and vibro-tactile explorations that translate sound into embodied, non-visual modes of experience.
